Coastal redwoods begin the 68-mile day before I spin through McKinleyville, Arcata & Eureka. I detour off 101 to spend the night in the Victorian village of Ferndale, the gateway to California's Lost Coast. In Ferndale, I plan to break my "no TV rule" just for the Sunday Night Niners game. That will be a nice reward for my 9th straight day on the bike and 13th overall.
Breakfast at The Palm
The Palm Motel - I wouldn't bring my wife here on an overnight, but I have no complaints
Another foggy morning - possibly some sun this afternoon
Rainy, calm morning
Stone Lagoon School
Big Lagoon, Humboldt County
Patricks Point Drive near Trinidad - and a couple of patches of blue sky
Trinidad Scenic Drive
More Trinidad Scenic Drive
Shot from Hammond Coastal Trail (one section unpaved but worth it) - blue sky headed my way
I have a feeling Lauren might like this town
Mad River
Eureka! found sun and food in Eureka
Before
After
College of the Redwoods - not a bad setting
Closing in on the kill
If a cow responds to "hey cow," does that make her a smart cow or a dumb cow?
Good wishes for a safe & interesting ride today. Luv u !

Jeff,
Ms. D and I are in Mendocino tonight. Is there anything you need? We could meet you tomorrow if there was something we could do to help you.

On August 14, 2013, I'm flying to Vancouver, British Columbia and beginning a 29-day, 1,880-mile bike ride from Canada to Mexico.
On this page you'll find random ramblings before, during, and after my trek down the Pacific Coast. Prior to BikeTheCoast13, I'll blog about my prep, training, and thoughts from the road. While visiting my blog, I hope you'll offer comments, suggests, and words of encouragement. I'm going to need all the help I can get!
For those who don't know me or my inspiration, please take a moment to check out the Why Now? tab to meet my daughter Lindsey and find out how I got here.
If this site helps or inspires you in any way, I hope you'll consider making a small donation to the cause.
