More civilization as I begin the 6-day, People's Coast Classic and follow the gorgeous coastline through the towns of Seaside, Cannon Beach, and Manzanita, then around Nehalem Bay & finishing this 72-miler in the cheese town of Tillamook.

Let's get this show on the road
Time to say good-bye to my Shanghai Crow's Nest and Lynne and Al who immediately welcomed me into their home like family.  Thank you for everything, including the history of Astoria.  I love this town, especially on a glorious day like today!

Looks like a good group, and this is where I'll be most of the way - behind everybody
First 18 miles done and I'm checking out Seaside.  Definitely feel a little more stress riding with a group, and can't help not liking it when I get passed.  Relax, you old geezer, just like Steve Martin in The Jerk, you have a Special Purpose!

Knee still feels good.  Don't like this achilles tightness though.  Really working on not favoring either leg.  Nice, easy, balanced stroke.

A couple climbs today - great views!

No wonder business is slow at the Friendly Market
Having a late lunch in Manzanita Beach with Steve and Cathy Gibson.  Muy bueno tacos.

Jeff, Loving the blog and your journey. I'm inspired to reach. I promised my daughter that we would hike half dome in the spring and plan to put Mt. Whitney on the agenda for next fall. Keep truckin.

On August 14, 2013, I'm flying to Vancouver, British Columbia and beginning a 29-day, 1,880-mile bike ride from Canada to Mexico.

On this page you'll find random ramblings before, during, and after my trek down the Pacific Coast. Prior to BikeTheCoast13, I'll blog about my prep, training, and thoughts from the road.
While visiting my blog, I hope you'll offer comments, suggests, and words of encouragement.  I'm going to need all the help I can get!

For those who don't know me or my inspiration, please take a moment to check out the Why Now? tab to meet my daughter Lindsey and find out how I got here.

If this site helps or inspires you in any way, I hope you'll consider making a small donation to the cause.
