Lots of up & down as this 73-mile route skirts the dunes and past Sea Lion Caves before rolling through Florence & Reedsport, past several lakes & over the Umpqua River to North Bend, situated on Coos Bay.
Leaving Yachats
When I was 8, this place was as big as Disneyland
Gotta get me a set of these panniers
Umpqua River Lighthouse
Winchester Bay from the top of Lighthouse Road - can you spot the lighthouse?
Late lunch at The Old Stables in Lakeside, 15 miles from the finish
Lakeside Airport (seriously) and its grass runway on the right side of the photo
McCullough Bridge ahead: "Shuttles provided for your safety". Hmmm, why don't I just take a shuttle from Canada to Mexico?
OK, it was a little hairy, but I survived the bridge & made it to North Bend
Don't forget, North Bend is south of South Bend and neither has anything to do with the other Bend
Jeff – very inspiring. So happy that your legs are cooperating with your determined mind!
Barbara the Honoree just adds to the inspiration!
Point to the wall I need to run through, coach!
Cheers!

On August 14, 2013, I'm flying to Vancouver, British Columbia and beginning a 29-day, 1,880-mile bike ride from Canada to Mexico.
On this page you'll find random ramblings before, during, and after my trek down the Pacific Coast. Prior to BikeTheCoast13, I'll blog about my prep, training, and thoughts from the road. While visiting my blog, I hope you'll offer comments, suggests, and words of encouragement. I'm going to need all the help I can get!
For those who don't know me or my inspiration, please take a moment to check out the Why Now? tab to meet my daughter Lindsey and find out how I got here.
If this site helps or inspires you in any way, I hope you'll consider making a small donation to the cause.
