Into The Wild (Alexander Supertramp Lite)

If you've never seen (or read) "Into the Wild," you should.  It's free on Amazon Prime.  It's a true story of adventure, survival, romance, tragedy, great music...and more.  I have thought about that movie a lot as I prepared for today and the 1,800 miles of cycling that follow.  I'm no Chris McCandless (aka Alexander Supertramp) but I think I have a little but of Supertramp in me.  I don't have the family dysfunction that drove Chris to to leave everything behind, but I'm brimming with his "Into the Wild" sense of adventure and anticipation.  I'm going to live in the moment every single mile of this journey.

The core of a mans' spirit comes from new adventure - Alexander Supertramp

So far, so good.  Knowing I needed to catch the noon or 12:45 bus to the Tsawwassen ferry, I got my bike assembled at the airport, jumped on the train thinking I was going to miss the 12:00 bus, but managed to just sneak on.  I had no Canadian money yet, but the driver let me on for free.  I better not tell that Canuck I'm a Sharks fan!  Other than my lack of loonies, just a couple of snafus so far.

Cut my finger just a little bit putting my bike together, but with the blood thinners I'm on, it doesn't want to stop oozing.  Also, it was virtually impossible to put my bike together without getting grease on my shirt.  it's the only one I've got and there's no washing machine until Friday.

It's cloudy here in Vancouver, and a little humid.  Should be able to relax now a little bit, and I think I'll catch the 1:00 ferry to Swartz Bay, the earliest one I'd hoped for.

On August 14, 2013, I'm flying to Vancouver, British Columbia and beginning a 29-day, 1,880-mile bike ride from Canada to Mexico.

On this page you'll find random ramblings before, during, and after my trek down the Pacific Coast. Prior to BikeTheCoast13, I'll blog about my prep, training, and thoughts from the road.
While visiting my blog, I hope you'll offer comments, suggests, and words of encouragement.  I'm going to need all the help I can get!

For those who don't know me or my inspiration, please take a moment to check out the Why Now? tab to meet my daughter Lindsey and find out how I got here.
