Maybe the best news is that for about 5 minutes, I didn't think about my knee at all. One of the things that's weighing on me is that I won't be "worry free" when I return because I'll be so damn focused on the knee. Everyone at Colliers has been great, allowing me not to worry or think about work during the ride. So, I don't want to be obsessing about my stupid knee instead. I need to find a balance between taking care of myself and letting go, and that 5 minutes was a hopeful sign that I might be able to do that after the first couple of days.
It's been two weeks and one day since I couldn't pedal a stroke, and I finally was able to give my knee more than an "around-the-block" test today. It was only 17.5 miles with one small hill, but I gained a large dose of much-needed self confidence because the ride was nearly a pain-free. I didn't push any high gears and kept my cadence above 80 strokes/minute. But I did stand and pedal a few times and neither that nor the hill presented any problems. I felt a little twinge here and there (mostly at the beginning), so it's not 100% but it's also still 6 days before I'll be tested for real. Overall, I was very happy.

Hey Jeff. So sorry to hear about your knee. You are so lucky that you are not in the Seattle area tonight and tomorrow. We are suppose to have several inches of rain tonight and tomorrow morning. And then it continues throughout the day. They actually have posted a flood watch. Crazy. I look forward to reading more of your stories when you are back in the saddle again.
